you start to look for a new one?!?!
I am in a job now getting paid decent money.
My job title is "Administrator" and I get paid 18k a year for it (first job out of uni) and I do quite enjoy it, its not so bad. Problem is its not challanging enough, I am front of house in the office so sometimes I feel like secratary even though my role is more like office manager, doing invoices and trouble shooting peoples problems (IT etc) within the office. My boss is ok and she has had me doing some web design stuff but most of the time I never see her and so I just sit around on on the internet (on here and other sites!!!).
So after 2 months in this job, is it too early? The reason I ask is that HR have just sent a monthly "jobs" e-mail round and they have a "office manager" job for 50% - 75% more money and I think that maybe that would be challanging enough for me. It would be within the same department I am in now and would probably be a similar role but without having to do the "secretarial" bits such as showing visitors round and taking them through to people who they are here to meet!
Anyone got any thoughts on whether I should go for this job (at least check it out) or if I should stay where I am now and see if it improves.

it would at least show ambition.......smile --- it makes people wonder what you are up to....

At my last place of work it was company policy to be in your role 18months and then to get your manager's authorisation before applying for another position in the company.
Hence to say, I am in a new company now as an admin manager, couldn't afford to wait around another 8 months in the hope for the right job to come up at the right time.
Doesn't sound like you have the same restrictions so I would go for it (what's the worst that can happen?)!

You ask the question knowing that 2 month is a little too short. I have lost count of the times I have been told that someone is not finding their job challenging enough. What did you not understand about the job when you took it? - some (not me) may say !
You need to remember how your CV will look, particularly if you don't stick your next job for long. Make the most of the fact you are not challenged to equip yourself for your next job. After 6 months no one could argue that you did not give it a fair go.0 -
I say go for it too. It shows ambition, and the potential and attitude to fast track and be a high flyer. It's not like you are looking to leave the company, more to get up the career ladder as quickly as you can, like anyone would if they had your guts and determination.
If you feel under-employed now, and have proved yourself albeit for just two months, your employer should be as enthusiastic as you to make the most of your talents.
Put in for an interview anyway, and take it from there. The worst that can happen is they suggest you need a bit more experience in your present role, and you will have been noticed anyway!
I haven't bogged off yet, and I ain't no babe

            Hello,
Like others have said, I would definitely go for it. It sounds like a great opportunity & does show you are ambitious which is always good
I'd go for it & good luck to you
[& if they need anyone to fill your role i like the sound of your job & your wage!

I say whatever you do in life remember it is not what they can do for you but what you can do for them. If you remember this then you will be taken notice off and people will remember your name.
If the company don,t agree and refuse your ambitions then the company may not be right for you, and a different company may want someone like you,
everything in a company revolves around MONEY and EFFICIANCY the more efficiant the more money, but firstly you must think like this and believe in yourself. YOU CHOOSEBargain BoyNo amount of money is worth more than good health0 -

I think moving to a job with a different company would look too soon on a cv, but getting an internal promotion would not, quite the reverse, showing ambition, keenness etc.Sim wrote:You ask the question knowing that 2 month is a little too short. I would definitely find out more, but think twice about applying if you don't strictly meet the person spec etc. Talking to HR wouldn't do any harm.Signature removed for peace of mind0 -
Massive thanks for all your feedback everyone.
Have decided that I will get the job spec from HR and see what it says. The position is only advertised internally and as far as I can see, there is only myself and a few other people that could feasibly apply for it and only really me that is doing near enough that job now anyway.
I think my boss has been impressed in my 2 months here, I have done lots of organising, saved them loads of cash by sourcing items locally instead of through the rubbish stationary suppliers etc and best of all, feedback is that i "get things done" so thats good.
Will keep you all updated on what happens!
