Yeah I feel the same, I would love to buy a F/R chick. I know that they made it do three dinnners on the telly, but I have to do that with a cheep one.
I aso find that smart price are just not uniform in shape and may need further trimming, thats ok I can deal with that.0 -
I'm watching my pennies to and as much as I'd like to but free range the budget won't allow it at the mo, smartprice chicken tastes fine - DH is quite fussy and he eats it no complaints!
I agree completely! We rarely buy meat because there isn't really enough money in the budget for it on a regular basis. I would never ever buy smartprice mince, sausages or other processed cheap meat but figured chicken might be okay. I'd love to be able to afford free range as it does make me feel guilty but it's just not feasible!
Thanks for everyone's replies! It's chicken casserole for us tomorrow night!

I use ASDA SP chicken breasts for my Chicken Kormas - no skin, going to be diced so size doesn't matter, a couple of little bits of fat IIRC, cooks fine & tastes OK to me.
PS. I roasted an ASDA SP chicken as a practice run for last Christmas, and it was absolutely tender and delicious.

The only tasteless chicken I ever had was a free range.. blah de blah.. way overpriced thing.. It was brought round as an offering so was cooked in exactly the same way as I always cook them.. upside down in the oven wrapped in a blanket of tin foil (breasts down so they retain the juices!)

According to someone who worked at a chicken factory there is no difference to any chicken unless they are free range/organic. All Barn reared, smartprice, supermarkets own are the same. All the chickens came in from the same place in the same container and were packaged accordingly."On behalf of teachers, I'd like to dedicate this award to Michael Gove and I mean dedicate in the Anglo Saxon sense which means insert roughly into the anus of."
