Costco Membership

G'day all,

After reading a load of posts today, I'd love to shop at Costco but I know it's one of those "mermbership" places that you can only go to if you're a member.

So.... any members here, can you please tell me how you got your membership?

I don't know if hubby or I would be eligible to join?

Cheers,

Ness

Do you know, I had exactly the same thought today. Thank you for asking the question! I think it's got something to do with where you work - what do you do? I'm an English teacher at a language school - would I be able to join?

Still loved, still missed and very dear
Our thoughts are ever with you,Though you have passed away. And those who loved you dearly,
    Are thinking of you today.

It's aimed mainly at the trade but if you know somebody that is a member , for a small fee they could nominate you as a member as I think each card holder can have several sub-card holders.
If you go on their website , it tells you who is eligible to join.
    Good luck!

    Thanks everyone for your tips!
Hubby works on the railways, he might be eligible?
And until recently (we've just relocated 250 miles away) I worked for a bank, maybe I could take in my last payslip and then I might be eligible?
    Hmmmmmm.
    Thanks everyone, much appreciated!!!

(Oh, and wow, you guys sure reply fast in this forum LOL)

Sorry for all the questions. :o
Do the cards ever expire? My son got one though work a few years ago when he worked for a bank/estate agent but never used it, he no longer works there so I wondered if the card was still valid? He works in local government now so if the card has expired I suppose he could get a new one. Could I, or OH, use his card or would he have to be with us?

I'm not sure if his is a trade or individual card (it has his name on it), do they look different?

Edit: I've just hunted his card out, it's an individual member one, and he's been a member since 11/05.

You have to renew your card each year as far as I know.

I believe for individual membership its £25 and £12 for each "sub" card.

  • I showed my wage slip and utility bill seeing as I'm a civil servant and got membership that way.
You have to renew the membership every year.
Trade cards will say "trade member" on them. Individual say "individual member"

If your son is a civil slave like me, he can get membership with a payslip and utility bill and then get an additional card for you. You can then take in 2 non-members with you as "guests".

Thanks for that, his has definately expired! Do you think it's worth paying the £25 for a new card, do save that throughout the year? We have a Makro card (OH worked there many moons ago) but don't often go as most things are cheaper in the supermarket.

  • We go at the beginning of each month and get:
8 x 1.5l bottles of pepsi - £5.99 (rrp upwards of £1.30 each in shops)
    48 pouches of kitekat - £7.99 (rrp box of 12 £4.50 upwards)

So we save: £15 per month on those items alone.
Massive boxes of washing powder are £10.

We find costco is better for the things we need in bulk instead of makro.
