buying of amazon.com

I have seen a camera on amazon.com and is it much cheaper than buying the camera from here. amazon.com offer's a priority shipping which pays for any import fees and it costs $30 + $6/lb for one item.

I was wondering if anyone has brought items from amazon.com and how much the shipping was and did they have to pay customs? Also, how long is the delivery time?

I haven't brought anything from Amazon.com, but I have brought from Amazon in the Uk and it was one of the new Canon Digital Cameras which was considerably cheaper than on the highstreet, i opted for the free delivery option which took a bit longer to arrive (about 7 days). Why not check out Amazon.co.uk if you haven't already.

Thanks, but its a nikon camera and its £170 on amazon.co.uk and on amazon.com it $199 (roughly £100) and with the shipping option above ($36=£18) it would still be cheaper but i want to know is worth the hassel waiting for it to arrive and will there be a customs charge?

Wow what a great price. Hopefully someone else can answer your questions for you, i would be interested to know as well for future use! Its worth waiting if you are going to save a reasonable amount of money. Good luck I hope you manage to get your camera quickly if you go ahead and order.

I think you will have to pay VAT, import duty and an admin/delivery fee if Customs "picks up" the parcel. Occasionally things slip past them, but anything over £19 in value (and I think that is supposed to include P&P) is liable for import duty.
There are other threads on the subject - search for "import duty" - which say to allow an extra 25% of the cost to cover these fees.
"Cheap", "Fast", "Right" -- pick two.
