:hello: pollyjar, now you're here I do hope someone can help!

Does the solution give a list of ingredients on the packaging?

I don't know anything about shavers 'cos all my men favour the hairy look, and I've no idea how this stuff works, but two suggestions: can you use the cleaning system less often? and could you clean with water and lubricate with sewing machine oil or similar?

Please don't hold me liable if either of those suggestions wrecks your shaver! :rotfl:

    Thanks for your quick response.
Yes, I am using it less often and washing the head with hot water before using the cleaning solution, but still looking to see if there is an alternative.

The purpose of the solution it says are to clean and Lubricate.
The contents read (and its long) --- demineralised water, anionic and nonionic sufactants (less than5%), conditioning agent (glycerin), limonene, ethylhexylglycerin, 2-phenoxyethanol.
Is there a chemist who can interprete, I believe its contains distilled water and a wetting agent, what the other are I am not sure. The quantity of each is not stated.
    Thanks again.
    Any advise welcome

My son uses Whal hygenic clipper spray. He brushes off the loose whiskers and sprays them with this (The razor not the whiskers). Amazon sell it for £4.50 ish, there may be cheaper places. If you can get the aerosol can, it seems to last longer.

  • Okay, it's been a while since this thread started and I came across it while researching an alternative to the Philips very expensive cleaning solution.
It seems that the basis of the cleaner is de-ionised water, isopropyl alcohol and glycerine with some perfume.

My answer to create my own derivative was to take some Dr Johnson's Anti-Bacterial cleaner available from Home Bargains and add a little Avon Skin So Soft (4 sprays into every top up of the cleaner unit).

Hey Presto, a working solution, (no pun intended), at a fraction of the Philips price.

Hope this helps anyone else seeking for this.
  • water with dishwashing detergent works.
and you can add some ethanol for anti-bacteria.
