Not sure where to put this - catalogue debt

Hi,

Sorry I didn't know where to put this. I am pretty sure my mum owes a debt to Littlewoods. On visiting my mums house I saw a letter on the side re a debt and advising about a ccj, but couldnt see anything more than that. Also a number keeps ringing my mum and she says leave it its sales again. I jotted number down yesterday and rang it today its Littlewoods. They have rang at least 5 times over the last 2 days I have been there.

My mum is on IS and DLA lower rate ( I think, she doesnt really talk to me about this), lives on her own but has help from my dad who lives nearby. They have been seperated since 94. What could happen from here? If I approach her about this she will be furious, she is the type to bury her head in the sand rather than sort things out.

Many thanks
Louise

    Hi Louise

Whilst I cant help you with any 'technical' money stuff, you're obviously kind enough to want to help your mum because you're here. Talk to her, she may be furious (you dont have to tell her you rang the number) but she'll thank you in the end because once she starts to manage it she wont be worrying about it, which I'm sure she is at the moment.

    Good luck
Mortgage, we're getting there with the end in sight £6587 07/23, otherwise free of the debt thanks to MSE help!
  • i agree, talk to her about it! she might be mad but i always say a problem shared is a problem halved. if Littlewoods are calling her i would have thought that it was a good thing, they havent passed the debt to a dca or solicitor yet? you might be able to set up a plan with them or something to stop getting the ccj? i would suggst you ask her to call cccs or payplan and get some free advice.hth

Do you think you could help your mum do a CCA request? Littlewoods are renowned for not having CCAs that are enforceable, and whilst she would want to pay the amount back, it would give her some breathing space to pay it off as and when she can, and not have those dreaded phone calls constantly.
