Question for toothsmith -How much fluoride do we need?

    If I remember correctly I think it depends which health authority you're under because they are the ones who decide if you have fluoride added to your water. For example, Northumbria Water supply me but they don't put fluoride in all of their water, it says on their website:
    "Fluoride is also added to around 40% of the water supply in the north east of England, at the request of the local authorities. The areas affected include much of Northumberland, Tyne and Wear and north west Durham."

    There's a map showing which areas have fluoride added to their water. I was actually surprised by how little of the country has fluoride added, I thought it was more.

    I found this, it looks like there has been no fluoride added since 1999 and even then it had only been added in 2 small areas.:
    "The water supply in Northern Ireland has never been artificially fluoridated except in 2 small localities where fluoride was added to the water for about 30 years up to last year. Fluoridation ceased at these locations for operational reasons. At this time, there are no plans to commence fluoridation of water supplies in Northern Ireland." (C.J. Grimes, Department for Regional Development, Belfast, November 6, 2000).
