My DD might make the odd post for me
  • Alright - my next mission is to buy some hairdressing scissors then OH and I will see how good we are at hair dressing! He already shaves his to save money over here, we only have to replace the clippers when they die so works out pretty well!

    Wish us luck!!!

  • Just a quick update - Mogwai, I can't thank you enough! Had always wanted to be able to cut my hair at home but didn't want it cut straight across and always have layers when I do have it cut.

Bought my Boots hairdressing scissors last week (using advantage points of course) and just turned my head upside down in the lounge and got my OH to cut it across straight. Not sure how I would have managed if I had to do it myself so luckily he believed me when I said that I wouldn't hold him responsible if it didn't work out!!! I have minor doubts about how straight across the cut was but I can't tell in the end product so it's all good!

So, there you go, get the courage, and go for it!

    Thanks again

I may try this later, after a few more lagers. Sounds pretty good.

thanks mogwi!! i have just taken about 7 inches off my hair with the kitchen scissors - it was well overdue its 2 year cut! i have just had a few glasses of wine and as it is a bank holiday weekend i thought i have nothing to lose as i have an extra day to wait in a salon with 30 quid in hand and get it sorted!! you have just saved me loads of money and i thought i was treating myself with a cheap bottle of wine - no 1/2 bottle and a haircut that needed doing and would have cost me about 30 pounds in a salon (without the wine). cheers!! its a win win situation in sillyvixens house!!

My mum used to cut my sister's hair for her using a similar method, that I'd found on a long hair forum (used to have waist length hair - not anymore though lol).

The only difference was you brushed all the hair and tied it into a pony tail right in the centre at your hairline on your forehead. Then cut. It looks quite amusing, as you end up with a brush type effect, but once you let it down, volia! Layered haircut.

We now go down to our local college and get it cut and blowdried for £7.50, they do a good job ;)
