just a bit of advice really... I purchased a settee from DFS 4 years ago, signed the forms for their 0% interest deal. I paid the last payment on it this month and pulled out all the paperwork I held in relation to the loan just to check dates etc. Have now discovered that I have been charged £283.18 for PPi - this was never discussed with me at the time I took out the loan. I never have PPI on any of my cards, loans etc so I know that I would never have knowingly agreed to it. can only think that as I had to sign so many different forms re my order (and the excitement of buying a new sofa!) that it slipped through the net. my question is - am i able to put in a claim for it? i think probably not as it's my own fault that it was signed for, but think that the sales person did not act very professionally by adding it onto the credit agreement without discussing it with me first.

thanks for listening!

  • Hi
I bought a sofa from DFS in 2008 and started my 6 month payments in March 09. I have just had an annual statement from Hitachi Capital finance company which shows PPI added to my account. I have checked my copy of my CCA regulated agreement and I did not request this insurance and there is not a tick in the box for this or monthly payments on my copy. After speaking to DFS they advised I speak to Hitachi however they are claiming that there copy of the loan agreement shows I wanted the insurance and monthly payments. As I work in the finance industry I know I would never have agreed to this insurance so it can only assume that either DFS or Hitachi Capital added this information to the loan agreement after I signed it.
What can I do as the finance company claim they are only acting on the information provided but as far as I am concerned its fraud as the loan agreement was amended after I signed it.
Any help gratefully received. Also does anyone know if Hitachi is FSA regulated?
