Trying hard but getting nowhere

This is my second post. Just wanted to say hi to everyone in my first.
I feel that i am now ready to face up to my responsibilities and try my best to sort out my debts and finances.
It's sooo hard though.
After hubby losing 4 jobs through no fault of his own, we had to re mortgage last year. Wish i had known about this site before then as we could have probably done things a bit differently.
We have one CC of which i am about to change to a 0% balance transfer. That's a start. I am also trying to change our internet provider but AOL are not very compliant. I have also discovered that we are paying a ridiculous amount for our life insurance, so will be changing that.
I am having trouble trying to cut down on other things but don't see where we can make any more savings.
I have worked hard all my life and just feel i have no rewards for it, continually struggling to just get along.
It was really difficult not to get angry with hubby when he was out of work. I felt sorry for him as he became more disheartened after the more rejections he received. He was then taking awful jobs to keep the wolves from the door!
Well, i won't go on anymore.
Thanks for listening.

    Hi and Welcome.
If you want to post a SOA this can help the wonderful people on here identify areas that you may not have thought about for saving some extra money. You will find when you start to get things under control it will become addictive and it will get easier.
    Good luck.

    Hi proudmum

If you post up a SOA we may be able to offer some advice on where you could save. The SOA calculator is a great help in laying out and calclating.

    Thank you,
I shall do as you suggest and look for the SOA calculator. I am feeling better already knowing that there are people who genuinly want to help and offer advice.
Does anyone ever feel guilty with their kids?
My son is in his second year at Uni hence the username. He never asks for any money and has a part time job to fund his social life. We often feel guilty that we can't do more to help him. He does understand and we try to make it up to him when we can.
How do you do a signature?

Signature - go to user CP at the top of the page. There will be links for editing on the left menu of the new page.

Don't have kids, but while i was at uni i studied full time and had 3 part time jobs. Kids are tough at that age and likw a challenge. As long as he knows you'll be there for him if he needs you, that's all he really needs. If he knows about your money situation then hopefully he is a step ahead and won't go looking for credit that will be frittered away.

  • i know what you mean about children its so hard to give them things but not spoil them ,and not give them things but then not deprive them!hope that makes sense! your so seems like a really well rounded man that takes his responsibilities and finacial situation seriously. Both my younger brother and sister in law are at uni, and are always poor students ( but enough money to fund severel nites out a week!) they both get an allowance from family and student loans etc but neither work or seem to intend to in the holidays as they need to relax!!

Don't feel the slightest bit guilty that you can't do more to help him. If has got himself a job and is paying his own way, then that is a great start in life. Too often I see young folk who have been given everything and they then struggle to make their own way because they have always had parents subsidise their lifestyle. Good luck with the SOA and your plans to get debt free.
