Leave them to soak for a couple of hour in a mixture of bleach and water, then wash as usual........i have a bucket of rather grubby white polo shirts belonging to DS 6 in soak right now hehe.

lol! I was thinking about this this morning when DD1 got a pair that looked like they had been used to clean the bath after a rugby team had had their post match bathr:rotfl: .
I have bought some napisan. Did think about bleach but thought regular use may rot the fabric, plus it can make some white things go yellow.
Will be trying the napisan over the weekend and will let you know.0 -
Hi. I use Glo-white which I buy from the supermarket. It's really good at making things white again.0

Always make sure that kiddies whites are washed immediately they take them off.
Grass stains etc will be absorbed with time.
Good old toothpaste is a useful standby if no soap is available.
Buy a block of "vanish" soap. It lasts for ever and is really useful. It rubs into stains before the wash and loosens them. Used it for years.Keep trying.........................what else is there to do?

I always used to put my left-hand inside the sock and attack the stains with a nailbrush that had been rubbed over a bar of household soap (Fairy/Sunlight or something similar) - I suppose today's equivalent would be a bar of 'vanish'. Then rinse and throw in the machine with the usual whites.
If my kids were playing in the garden in the summer I never allowed them to wear socks (jelly-bean shoes!) - much easier to clean feet than grubby/stained socks; also made dd remove her white socks when playing indoors (boys weren't too bad in grey/fawn socks!).

I soak stained white in a weak bleach solution.Buy the thin type as the thicker ones can make things turn a bit yellow.Have not had problems with fabrics rotting.0

I usually put them in the washer with half washing powder and half soda crystals from the pound shop. Seems to work for re-whitening shirts, especially that ring around the neck that men seem to create?!Needs must when the devil vomits in your kettle..........0

I use bleach for socks, washing up liquid for grass stains, bright sunlight for tomato stains.
I only use Tesco value washing powder, if I am feeling flushed I'll buy Surf powder and mix it with the TV powder."Wisdom doesn't automatically come with old age. Nothing does, except wrinkles.
