ok, so 3 years ago i took out a consolidation loan, at the time i'd two loans totalling about 12 thousand & i paid off the credit card.
at the sametime my sister with learning difficulties was diagnosed with leukemia, she's my only immediate family so the loan became a bit of a 'blanket' in affording the trips to aberdeen (i live in glasgow) & afforded me the chance to be with her, although it meant staying in a hotel often, which i couldn't possibly have put on my credit card.
i'm in steady work & was fortunate work gave me the time off.
but since last August i've struggled to keep up with payments on the credit card I had, but at the same time both sainsbury's & egg were willing, so i took out a card on each (stupid i know)
November i took out a further consolidation loan, secured on my home, but it didn't come through till late December when i'd tuppence to rub & i got paid early in December then late in January. The cheques didn't clear quickly (10 days excluding holidays) so settlement figures were revised & i was left with the remainder to pay still...
last 6 months i've been trying to catch-up on arrears & getting nowhere, get one cleared & another rears it's head + monthly i'm getting charged fees. Abbey have charged at least £700 from start of the year, often before they cleared direct debits that mattered ie. mortgage. £35 a pop even if i'm 35p above my overdraught or 'not-honoured DD's' (where am charged a fee by the originator also...)
their advice was to cancel direct debits but at same time i then need pay by card (few take cheques, 5 days to clear?) & the minute i put money into the account it's gone on Abbey's charges?
i'm at a loss, any advice?
