I have posted this on the old style board but as I am ready for bed and had no reply i thought i'd try my luck on the old faithful.....
Can I freeze a french stick?
I bought one for 19p today and it is still pretty fresh. I won't use it all tomorrow but don't want to waste any.
I think I can but my mum doesn't......please let me be right

Me too - I have a loaf in the freezer now.
It's only a different shape so I don't see the problem. I'll just try it and see how it goes at the weekend.

I'm with IA, although it might only be good for toasted stuff if it is already beginning to go slightly stale (seeing as it only seems to last three seconds before it goes hard)
I say give it a go. Worst case scenario, cut it into discs, toast until fairly crunchy and then have with dips, delicious. (I have done this with 3 day old french stick before)£34,547 (Dec 07); Current debt: £zilch (Debt free December 2010)

It will freeze, when you take it out let it defrost, then wrap it in tinfoil and warm it up in the oven, it should come out crusty againSparky0107 - Sealed pot challenge member #002. Total for SPC3 £1,030.57 Total For SPC 4 £2247.00 Total for SPC 5 £2574.62 :T Total for SPC 6 £4552.91:T

Some instore bakery french sticks cannot be frozen as they were frozen but it usually says so on the barcode label if its not suitable. A lot of instore bakery items are previously frozen.0

They freeze very well. I used to run the catering in a golf club. Cut it up into manageable pieces, then freeze. take out what you need. Splash a little cold water over the top of bread stick and put straight into the oven. It wont take long to warm up again. And i think its better second time around after being frozen. x x xNight Owl Member No 1 :rotfl: :rotfl:

thanks for your tips....
unfortunately the Bismarck household can devour a French stick in the time it takes me to get my plate out so I doubt I'll be able to test the freeze process unless the hungry mob are out for the day...For what I've done...I start again...And whatever pain may come ...Today this ends... I'm forgiving what I've done -AF since June 20070
