£7 of Coupons in Somerfield Mag

The current Somerfield in-store magazine has 7 x £1 coupons off various wines.

These coupons have NCH codes and are valid till sometime (16th?) in October.

My local Tesco and Asda stores take these with no trouble at all even if I don;t buy the product - it is always nice to get £7 off my shopping.

I saw these yesterday but didn't think Tesco's would take a coupon for another store.

Can Tesco's / Asda claim back the money from the Somerfield coupons or could we be killing the hand that feeds us?

AFAIK as long as the coupon has a NCH code on it then the retailler will get the money back as it is the manufacturer of the product that is offering the discount on the product rather than Somerfield.

Admittedly they are offering the discount through Somerfield but I did ask at the CS desk in my Tesco store and they person said that they were happy to take them and if they are happy to take them then so be it.

I think it depends on your area. If Tesco/Asda feel they are a competitor they will take them. In my area they don't, so won't.

I have managed to get rid of one or two in the past (only try if there over £1, last one was £5), but the girl just scanned all my vouchers that day without checking each one was ok.

I used them again last night, the checkout operator asked if I had bought any of the products and I said no so he asked the checkout supervisor (or whatever the person that walks up and down the checkouts to answer queries and stuff is called) and she just said to see if they scan and accept them if they do - which they did - so thats another £7 saved for a rainy day !!!

I used 4 £1 off wine in Tesco no problem.

Have you tried recently LilacLillie? My Tesco wouldn't either, but I thought I'd try again yesterday after reading this thread and they took them no problem (only three for some reason, still that's £3).

LOL!! These are the two biggest supermarket chains in the UK, with all the clout and dodgy buying techniques they can handle. They *will* get their money back, you can guarantee it.

The people at the end of the chain that are paying for the promotion will be the suppliers, as they are squeezed for everything they can by the supermarkets.

Some use the self scan option in TESCO and say it works, not that I have.
