Now that you're over 50 do you dye your hair? This is an MSE topic as hairdressers charge a LOT of money for colouring hair. Do you use DIY hairdye or have you decided to let nature decide your hair colour?

I've moved your thread over to the Health and Beauty sub board as you'll find loads of tips here where users have searched out the cheapest deals on hair cuts/colouring etc.0

Over fifty to dye your hair. I've been dying my hair since my teens. Although today and for the next couple of days I am my natural colour. I have just had my shoulder length hair cut very short. I was shocked by the amount of silver highlights.
Remember women are never grey we have natural silver highlights lol.
I now always dye my own hair. I had a bad experience in my twenties with blonde highlights which irritated my scalp. I find the home dye kits are a lot kinder, as long as you follow the instruction and do a patch test. I have done highlights myself but now I just do an allover colour. Unless you are completely silver go for a couple of shades lighter than your natural colour. If you are completely grey don't go too dark because it looks harsh and ageing.

I get mine coloured at the hairdressers. It's so long since I've seen my natural colour I don't know what it is anymore and more to the point I don't want to know because I'm sure I'm grey as a rat.Member #7 SKI-ers Club

Been colouring mine because of the silver highlights since my teens and at 43 Im completely silver - or rather I would be with out L'oreal or Clairol. Im not fussed - what ever is on special offer I buy. I tend to stick to variants of medium brown with reddish highlights. I thought Id treat myself before christmas and got my colour at the hairdresser and it was £30 down the drain, didnt last any longer then a DIY kit for £50

I've given up on dying mine now. I'm 43 and have a lot of grey (who am I kidding, some of it is virtually white!) but it's isolated to the front, so when it's parted it looks like I have two silver streaks. Even my hairdresser admits it looks better than when it's dyed.
If you want to keep your grey/silver/white looking bright (or blonde for that matter) Lush's Daddy-O shampoo is brilliant and smells just gorgeous, all violety.0 -
