prescription delivery

My Mum is in her 70's and doesn't drive. She is on several types of medication which she used to get quarterly.
She has now been told that the maximum number of pills that can be prescribed at one time is 28 days supply.

The problem being - she can't get to the surgery under her own steam to collect prescription so to have to do it every 28 days is going to be a real headache.

As she doesn't live near a Lloyds pharmacy (who do a delivery service) does anyone know how she can get a prescription delivered? The practice aren't being very helpful ???

Is she anywhere near a Boots? I believe they offer a delivery service.

I'd phone all the chemists near where she lives - you may find one is thinking of doing a delivery service even if they don't right now.

And I'd phone and ask to speak to the Practice Manager at the surgery and express your concerns, especially about the fact that they're not being very helpful.

Does she have any home help who could / would do this for her?

As a last resort, she could post in a request for a repeat prescription with an sae to be posted back to her, but that's not very satisfactory and doesn't get the drugs to her door!

  • My husband's a pharmacist and offers this advice:

Obviously your first option should be to contact your local chemists and see if they can help. My husband works for Rowlands Pharmacy (350 ish stores nationwide). His chemist has a delivery driver who delivers and collects perscriptions etc, although not all the stores offer this service.

If you don't get a response from the local chemists, give the following a go:

Pharmacy2U can dispense your prescriptions and deliver them *free of delivery charges to your home or workplace, within 1 to 2 days of receipt.

    Hope this helps

Most pharmacies will probably offer a delivery service as someone said it would be worth ringing any local ones.

Lloyds offer a service where they can order you repeat prescription for you (from a local surgery), then collect the prescription, dispense it and thn either deliver it or have it ready for collection to prevent you waiting. This saves a lot of hassle as you only have to make one phone call and everything else is done for you. Not sure if any other pharmacies will offer this but it could be worth asking.
