    Gooood morning!!!!

This question is like an old friend who pops round for tea, you know the type who you serve up a plate of biscuits too and you place the plate down with your faves facing you and the slightly pants biccies facing them because they've been sitting in the biscuit barrel for too long and you're desperate to get rid of them so you can justify buying some fox crunch creams or jammie dodgers and whilst you're not looking your so called friend leans over and nicks your carefully positioned biscuits then has the audacity to drop crumbs all over themselves which they seem to take great delight in brushing on to your freshly hoovered floor and brand new sofa.

Ermmm sorry about that, right consider this if you bought some dollars now at $1.89 to the pound and before you went they managed to rally to say $1.95, which in financial terms is quite a jump in 3 weeks, even if you were changing up £1000 you would only be $60 better off, or £30, i know that this is a money saving website but is life really worth stressing about a 3% jump in foreign currency, my top tip would be go and buy them now, even if they go up a bit you will only be a few quid out of pocket however if they drop you will kick yourself.

    all the best

  • its such a tough call, you are better off just doing it and getting over and done with and then not looking at the price anymore!

its going to be a good price whatever, compared to gouing to Europe, and compared to what it was to go to US a few years ago.

I work in Money Markets and track the dealing levels amongst big Banks everyday.

I can tell you right now the rate is trading around 1.9495
Yesterday it was lower around 1.9445
Day before it was around 1.9410
But back on 1st May we had it up around 1.9880

So no-one can really tell you where it is heading

since typing this its dropped back down to 1.9475

i can certainly keep you updated on any large swings either way, usually on the back of any good/bad news, as it does happen

but i reckon you are just best off going and doing it and not worrying about it!

back up to 1.9492 now !!

and please, I don't want any sarcastic posts on the lines of - "if you know how to win the lottery every week, why don't you............." :D:D

  • ah but it could go up more or it could go down or it could stay the same

yes it could do all of those things !!
but can't see it moving too much either way over the coming weeks (before the original thread starter goes away), so might as well do it start of this week, whilst its better than it was when he originally posted - at least he'll feel like he's got a better deal than a week ago !

currently trading at 1.9570 in the markets

Do you have the August figures on your screen? Either 2008 or 2009 would be great.
    Thanks.

I have found a very simple solution to the OP's problem.

I have agreed with my money man that the Boston tea party was a terrible mistake, and the USA is really part of the sterling zone. They just use funny pound notes, that are coloured green and have some spelling mistakes on them. Anyway, no matter what the money markets are doing he will give me as many of these green pounds as I want, in exchange for my genuine pound coins. (Or multiples thereof: he accepts sterling banknotes and the deal is the same.)

I feel that I have discovered a wonderful secret, and have saved myself a great deal of trouble and anxiety. And my money man is always pleased to see me, so I am making a new friend.
