I payed off my mortgage in 2002. I didn't switch, or pay it all off early, just payed it till the end of it's term. I put my deeds into the banks deed store system (Halifax). About a 1.5 years ago i took out the deeds and closed the account and i was charged for this, can't remember how much. Could i claim this money back?

Regards.

Could i claim this money back?

No. That isnt how it works. Martin's article is quite clear on what you can claim for so I suggest you take another read of it.

in summary though, the fee is not unfair and cannot be claimed back if charged. However, if the fee has increased by an unfair level from what it was when you took it out then you can claim back the difference. Most lenders dont look at what is or isnt fair and will automatically pay back the difference if there was one. Some will refuse when the increase is reasonable.

You should be aware that most of the main increases didnt start until around 2003 so you may find there is little or nothing you can claim back.
