Tesco online shopping tips - beginners (not codes)

I hope these few tips will be useful and not too patronising for regular moneysavers!! : They are meant more for first timers so they dont repeat our mistakes! Sorry if its already been said.

You have to look in more than one place somtimes to find bargains. I.e. If you look/search under "whisky" you will see all brands with some on offer but you may find more offers in "special offers" that dont appear in the wines and spirits section.
Many of the online offers have time periods or limits on them and its easy to overlook this when your doing a big shop, or perhaps when your tired! If the offer dates are outside of your delivery date.......oops!
If a code giving money off is dependant on a minimum spend, you may need to spend more than the minimum because if Tesco have not got the item on the shelf and cannot substitute it, you dont get it and this may reduce your total to below the minimum, as happened to a friend, Incidentally, he rang up, moaned a lot and got the points anyway, (all 1500 of them), but it appears they dont have too. This scenario is less likely - the more common the items you order are and if you are not bulk buying particular items.
If there is a two for one/ BOGOF offer or similar, you actually have to put two of the items into your basket to get the offer and not just put one in and expect the free one to be added! Sounds obvious really but I wonder how many newbies have made this mistake?
Home delivery appears to be cheaper on a tuesday & wednesday - delivery charges are not included when calculating your total spend for points or money off eligibility. If delivery date/time is important check it's available first before spending time doing your shop!
Cheers.

So if you do a shop using an extra points code and you buy all bogofs, will they refuse to add on the points?

  • As long as you meet the minimum spend they should honour the voucher, for example if min order value is £50 and you are buying items on BOGOF at £2 each you need to buy 50 of them not just 25 IYSWIM.
