How long will strong bread flour keep?

I want to bulk buy some flour before ASDA raises the price anymore. How long will it keep? I don't want flour weevils or whatever they are in it? Any ideas or do I just go by the sell by date?
Thaks in advance

Some of the Old Stylers will no doubt chip in, but it is recommended if you want to keep flour for long periods, to put the bags into a plastic bag and place the whole thing into the freezer for 24 hours, leave on the side to defrost at room temperature - apparently putting it in the freezer will kill any weevils that may be lurking.
:D Thanks to MSE, I am mortgage free!:D
  • Get yourself to Lidl. Strong bread flour stacked 6ft high 49p per bag. No one on here has complained about that brand and it lasts over 1 year just sitting on a shelf. Don't store flour or anything directly on the floor as this is one of the main causes of problems. If you have to lift something up to clean under it, it will remain dirty.

Feel free to stock up as much as you can use but for OS please don't buy anymore that would go to waste otherwise your worse off.

From the predictions the wheat reserves are the lowest they have been since the war but you storing an extra 5-10 bags will have no effect. Look at the flour isle in the supermarket and then look at the bread and cakes isles.

fingers crossed for a better wheat crop this year and for future years.
Lets get this straight. Say my house is worth £100K, it drops £20K and I complain but I should not complain when I actually pay £200K via a mortgage:rolleyes:

THanks for your help. Yes I was thinking in terms of storing maybe 8 bags, so not a huge amount. Lodls isn't anywhere near me so it's not worth paying for the bus to get there, too far to walk- or I would go. I'm not fussy. We have an Aldi but they don't seem to sell it anymore?!!!
I'll try freezing it to get rid of weevils and store it in my food cupboard.
    Thanks again
