FEB GC £197.31 out of £180:o. MARCH GC - out of £2000 -

at the risk of all break maker owners stoning me - I dont think you really need one - if you get a good food processor (with a dough hook) it will make it for you - all you have to do is shape it and put it in the oven. I have a Magimix but you really dont need to spend out. (& you can always make by hand - its not that difficult - honest)!
Best wishes

I was half wondering about that ...might give it a go first ...0

As a BM owner I promise not to stone you:D But in defence of my BM I have to say, I don't have a food processor, my poor arthritic fingers would find doing it by hand impossible at times. Added to which I don't have freezer space available for bread storage, so would need to be available to make bread most days. To assemble the ingredients takes 2 minutes, and then I can go out or whatever, knowing when I come back hours later it will be almost ready, with no further input from me.You never get a second chance to make a first impression.0 -

Do you have the recipe for your soft rolls please? The ones I tried were really stodgy.

I've been thinking of getting a breadmaker for a while now...
Is it cheaper to make your own rather than buy bread?
Are they expensive to run?
Thanks xx"Nobody made a greater mistake than he who did nothing because he could only do a little." Edmund Burke

I dont have a food processor but was thinking of trying it by hand first.... but the BM sounds so much easier. Are there plenty recipes around for different kinds of bread ? Husband is not at all well and I'm trying to make him healthier

I have a breadmaker, now a panasonic as the Morphy Richards broke. Even I couldn't mend it:rolleyes::rolleyes::rolleyes:
However if we are away self-catering I always make the bread if possible. We hired a boat on the Norfolk Broads (brilliant fun!) so had a small gas oven with low-medium-high settings and one shelf.
I bought a ready mix and followed the instructions. Obviously no bread tin so used the casserole dish. Drizzled the top with olive oil, bunged in oven on high and it was delicious.
Dough can be mistreated and bashed about (children love that bit) and as long as it is left to rise (under a teatowel or in a loose fitting plastic bag) so not to dry out the top, everything will be fine.0 -

Ta!
It is from the mr booklet that came with the bm so uses their measuring cup etc..here it is:
1 and 1/4 cup water
1 tbsp skimmed milk powder
2 tbsp melted butter (but I use sunflower oil)
2 tbsp sugar
1 and 1/2 tsp salt
3 and 1/4 cups of strong white bread flour
1 and 1/2 tsp fast action yeast
use setting 8 dough.
Take it out when done and shape in whatever way you like then let it rise again until its doubled(covered).Bake in the oven for about 15 mins at 190c. I find it makes about 8 rolls and it produces a lovely light dough.
You could of course just make the dough by hand as its actually quicker but I like to use the bm first thing so that I can get it shaped etc after I have done the school run in the morning!
alternitively you could use a basic bread recipe(obviously adjust to your needs!) This is what I use when not using bm at all...
750g bread flour
425ml warm water
25ml sunflour oil
1 sachet of fast action yeast
2 tsp salt...
Mix it all into a dough and need for 10 mins.Leave it covered somewhere warm until its doubled in size then shape to whatever you want..Allow it to rise again until doubled then bake at 220c for 15 to 20 mins.:DJAN GC- £155.77 out of £200
FEB GC £197.31 out of £180:o. MARCH GC - out of £2000
