unpaid default

Hello quite a few years ago I ordered many items from a catalogue received them and paid for them some of the items were curtains liners and tie backs which were never received I was chased for payment but as i had not received them I asked for proof of delivery ie signature before i paid for them. These details were never provided so they kept chasing me and I kept going back to them asking for proof of delivery eventually they stopped chasing and I assumed it was resolved. I recently got a credit alert from credit expert showing a default on my account from the catalogue dated 25/5/2002 for £79. What do I do about this? will it go away in a few weeks as it is nearing 6 years or do I need to write a note of correction or contact them again? please help!

A bumpety bump means that your post is starting to slip down the list. All this does is put it back at roughly the top so people who log in later have a chance of looking at your post and possibly helping you.
    Hope that explains for you

    Yes

Wait for it to drop off your credit record, and be alert to the fact that there are a number of companies who buy debts over 6 years old, knowing that they are statute barred and cannot be enforced in law. If one of these lovely companies contacts you, get in touch on here and we will rpovide the requisite letter.
If you've have not made a mistake, you've made nothing
  • thanks very much just 5 days to wait and then it will be 6 years!

does anybody know how long it take credit reference agency to remove it from my file?

As far as i am aware, it should be removed 6 years after the default date. As these types of thing are usually automated, i think it will be only 5 more days.

Note however that at some point you may still be asked to pay this debt. It will be statute barred, but some Debt Collection Agencies still try to collect them. As long as you inform them that the debt is statute barred, then the debt should remain unenforcable.

  • what should i do, i have several companies, after researching they are all one big company, chasing me to pay debts that are already over 6 years old.
they are threatening court legal action against me (if this is seen as viable option) or a licensed field agent to either collect or assess my means.

    can they do this?
CAB advised me to ignore all corresondence from them.
will they stop if i send a letter stating any debts would be statue barred?
