Wescote finance and British Gas

2 years ago I bought my own home and moved out of rented accomodation. British gas sent me a final bill to my new property and it turned out we were in credit so they sent me a check.
A few weeks ago Wescote finances started phoning the mobile of someone I lived with back then insisting that was my phone they were ringing. They have apparently been sending me letters to my old address for some time and wanted to know why I havent been answering. Anyway he explained to them that I had moved and gave them my number. After ringing him another 2 times insisiting that was not his phone they finally rang me this morning sayign they wanted to send me a letter about a debt with British gas. They wouldnt go into further details so I called BG right after.
After badgering the BG customer services guy for a few minutes we found out what the problem is. The final bill BG sent to me at my new property was only for the gas. They have been sending the final elec bill to my old address for 15 months before getting in touch with Wescote who are now dealing with it. I do not know how they can do this when they know where I live because A: They sent the gas bill to my new property along with a cheque, and B: I am still with BG now for both gas and elec.
I am awaiting the letter from Wescote now and BG have agreed to repost me the final elec bill to my current address. What I wan t to know is will this leave a mark on my credit rating? I have done nothign wrong. I have paid everything I was asked to the moment all bills arrived. BG have made a very stupid mistake here and I do not want to be punished for it. What if they start talking about late fees or other penalties?
