Hi All, lm newish on this thread but if it was'nt for this site l think l'd want to kill myself. (l know that sounds dramatic but lm sure some of you have felt this way at some time) Myself and OH have been keeping the wolves from the door for sometime now getting on quite well, then my mum got ill and was in hospital for 6 weeks then unfortunatly died, so the finances slipped just slightly because of time off visiting/ funeral etc and most people have been really good. (OH's self employed so no work no money) Just before mum died OH changed his job meaning another 3 hours travelling time but more money so we could catch up and have a bit left over (hoorah) only the new chap he's working for has'nt paid him properly in 6 weeks making our situation worse. The bank drastically lowered our overdraught and when he rang them to explain about mum and work the woman just told him that she was'nt a councilling service and she had her own family to worry about, nice eh? l know none of you lovely people can help really l just wanted to get it off my chest really.

So sorry to hear about you mum nova.
I'd definately make a complaint about the person that dealt with your call. There's no reason for that attitude and you and your husband shouldn't need to deal with that. After falling off the gambling wagon (twice): £33,600 (24,000+ 9,600) - Original CC Debt: £7,885.91
Dad Gift 6k ¦ Savings & Inv Tst: £2,500
Loan 10k: £0 ¦ Dad 5.5k: £2,270 ¦ LTSB: £0 ¦ RBS: £0 ¦ Virgin £0 ¦ Egg £0

Hi nova,
so sorry to hear about your mum, I lost mine last year & the finances just went out the window - just didnt care but a couple of late payment & interest charges brought me back down to earth & then eventually here  .
Even if no one can help in real terms, it's good to be able to get it out of your head & that's what this is all about as much as the practical help & advice. I was staggered to discover that so many other people were having similar problems & struggles as myself & I no longer feel so alonewhich in turn spurs me on to deal with it all.
Keep posting happy or sad & if you need to chat about your bereavement then my PM box is always open.
Take care hon
lot of (((hugs))

Just to add to what George is saying - I'm sorry to hear about your mum, and am, equally disgusted with the attitude of the person at your bank.
You can, and certainly should, complain in the strongest terms.
Having worked on a self-employed basis, myself, for 25 years, until my bankruptcy, I prided myself on having a good relationship with my Bank (HSBC) - I had a dedicated account manager, with a direct phone number, and they 'seemed' to understand that, being self-employed, the money was not, nor would it be, paid in regularily.
Then, one day I rang the direct number, only to find myself placed in a queue at an international call centre   . I went into the Bank and asked to see my account manager, only to be told that she was 'away on a course'. This reason continued for a further month or so, when it changed to 'she is on holiday'. Only after two or three months, was I told that she no longer worked for HSBC.
Then the phone calls started - often unintelligible and with no respect for my personal time, both evenings and weekends. I told the callers that I would not answer their 'data protection' questions and that I had opened an account with a specific UK based branc and would only deal with people from that branch, as I felt that they knew the way my business functioned. One particularily obnoxious woman, from a call centre in the Philipines, completely ignored the fact that I refused to confirm my details and told me that I must make regular monthly payments, otherwise my account would be closed. When I asked her for her name, she refused to give it, and her only 'excuse' for calling me on a Sunday afternoon was that 'this is now Global banking'. I was £1200 overdrawn, out of a £10,000 limit.
The Banks are totally insensitive and could not give a damn about personal circumstances as long as their figures look correct.
Sorry for my own 'mini rant', nova, but I just saw red when I read how the Bank spoke to you.
Good luck.I am NOT, nor do I profess to be, a Qualified Debt Adviser. I have made MANY mistakes and have OFTEN been the unwitting victim of the the shamefull tactics of the Financial Industry.
If any of my experiences, or the knowledge that I have gained from those experiences, can help anyone who finds themselves in similar circumstances, then my experiences have not been in vain.

Hi Nova,
I had a similar experience with a well known bank.
Last year my gran was diagonsed with a terminal illness which has left her unable to speak, she has had to go into a nursing home. When I rang the bank's call centre, they said they could do nothing unless they spoke to her directly, the person on the other end of the phone just seemed to not be able to comprehend what I had said!! I went into my local branch and spoke to a member of staff who could not have been more helpful and sorted out everything out.
Have you tried going into your local branch and seeing someone face to face?
Hope everything works out for you.0 -

Your right they dont seem to have any compassion.
