Advice about AVC

Hi all, i am 25 and work for the prison service, i have been advised that if i add index linked AVC via a financial adviser it would benifit me to pay a little more pension each month and therefore get to retire early. Could you tell me if this is correct? and any other info about AVC's?

Anything you pay towards your retirement is going to give you more in retirement. The more you have the more income you can get or the earlier you can retire.

Largely obsolete nowadays with many companies closing them for new business. Unless the employer gives an enhancement or the AVC can be used to enhance the benefits of the main scheme then you a probably better off with a stocks and shares ISA, stakeholder pension, personal pension or SIPP.
