Next Debt Passed to Collectors

When i checked my credit file i had an unpaid debt to Next for £96.
I didnt even realise i had any money owing on my account, and as such had missed payments on it (9 to be precise! ) (i bet it was for the £3 catalogue or something!) Anyway, i rang them up and its been passed to a debt collection agency.
I got the number for them from Next, called them and they didnt have a record of the debt (i didnt have my customer number with me at the time), and told me to call back with the customer number.
I bought my number with me today, and im gonig to call up. Do you think that they will offer me a "discounted" amount if i clear today. I know £96 is not a lot but i could really do with it being lower? If i say i cant afford the whole amount today, would they offer me a lower amount? If they do, should i wait for it in writing before paying it?
Sorry for all the questions.
Thanks
Amy

hi, yes they should agree to a lower amount , but you must get it in writing ! The usaully advice is never phone a DCA but in this case it best to try and clear it up quickly .If you ask for them to send you a breackdown of charges , but do not offer any payment yet . As all this amount is made up of charges I am sure you can get figure right down.0

Hi Amy, has your Next account now been closed? make sure it has.
...Linda xxIt's easy to give in to that negative voice that chants "cant do it" BUT we lift each other up.
We dont count all the runners ahead of us & feel intimidated.
Instead we look back proudly at our journey, our personal struggle & determination & remember that there are those that never even attempt to reach the starting line.0 -
