No mention of being able to charge from usb port!!! is this possible or not? do you have to buy recharge bats?
  • The ones for which working links have been provided are supplied with an alkaline (ie non-rechargeable) battery. This means they don't recharge through the USB port but, instead you have to swap out the battery.

For some people's circumstances this is better than a built-in rechargeable that will give up the ghost one day resulting in the binning of the player. For some others it is better to simply swop easily-available dry-cell batteries rather than wait until a PC is next available (if on holiday abroad, perhaps). Others may be happy using individual rechargeable cells instead of the dry cells even though manuals typically insist that rechargeable cells are not recommended.

The ones that charge through the USB port can also be charged by a powered USB hub such as 56117 (quickfind code at ebuyer) for less than £3!

Horses for courses. The dry-cell models can be searched for by using the quickfind codes:
    88980 88981 88982 & 88983 (256 looks underpriced).
The equivalents with integrated Li-Poly battery are:
    89020 88921 88922 & 89223 (the last with free shipping)

This type of device usually relies on the earbud lead to act as an aerial for the radio but there was no specific confirmation or rebuttal of this that I could find. Makes the radio capability pointless if, like me, your ears can't retain buds and you prefer the sound of decent headphones anyway.

The radio should work with any headphones though. It's just the cable that acts as the antenna, like those pointless bits of cable you get with hi-fi radios!

As far as batteries go, I would go for one that has a separate battery for the recharging reasons Jon gives.
  • Can this or any MP3 be used as Voice Recorder
