Question re: New Bank Account

Hi Guys,

I have a question which I hope someone can answer for me (I think I am just being stupid and paranoid so hopefully someone will set me straight..)

I have a poor credit rating and am on a dmp, I want to open a new bank account - during the course of the application I need to give employers contact details..why is it that banks need this exactly? I don't want my employers to know the position I am in financially as I think they would would look down on me if they knew...is there any danger of this or am I being as dumb...?

It depends what details the only details I have ever been asked is how long you have been in employment and occupation.

I should imagine though that you are protected (if it makes you feel better) by data protection act.

What I would tell you re the DMP if ever a creditor asks any details like company you work for, wages, bank etc etc they are not entitled to any of that just a statement of income expenditure.

I opened a new bank account with the coop just before starting my DMP and with a terrible credit rating. I had to fill in details about my employer but unless you are doing a job which means you have to declare your finacial status Im pretty sure your company would not be approached. Data protectiona dn all that.I know mine hasnt.There are some real experts on this site so I'm really bumping this up for one of them to answer.
