Unused Accounts

I have just checked my credit file and noticed to unused credit accounts on it.

One is Studio Cards. I bought some christmas stuff off them about 3 years ago and paid the first invoice in full. I noticed they have given me a £2k credit facility even though I doubt I will ever use thm again.

The second is Debenhams. About 5 years ago i bought some stuff there and took out a store card in order to get the discount on the goods. I paid the first statement off in full so no interest and never used the card again. The credit amount is £3K.

Am I better off ignoring these as there is nothing owing or should I close them down?

Am giving you a bump up but cant offer any help but if you dont use them i guess they just lie dormant on your file but good question.

It looks like available credit on your file - you have the potential to spend £5K. If you never intend using them, it seems pointless to keep them open - close them down.

  • Close them down asap. If you want to get finance in the future it may lower the amount you can get due to haveing 5k avalible. However I have been trying to close my studio cards, have been for 3 years

    Great minds think alike.

I called studio to close my account about 3 months ago - maybe longer - but it is still showing as active on my account.

I called them again today and was told that my request to close my account would need to be put in writing!

Back to your problem - close them down if you have no intention of using. Apart from the fact it shows you have instant access to £5k, it prevents fraud too, should someone else find your details and run up debt
