Shortening Trousers

Hi there all, how is everyone? Just wondering whether anyone had any advice on getting their trousers shortened. I am from Australia and back there, we get it done very cheap. But over here I can't seem to find a place that does it for around £5 or less.
Currently living in the Bayswater area, though I do work in the city. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks in advance to all.

Maybe not the response you want but how about doing it yourself with some Wonderweb. You just turn up trousers to the length you want and iron the stuff on. Its really easy to do (even I can do it and I'm useless at nearly everything) and it works.
I doubt you'll find anywhere cheap in Bayswater or City areas. I could recommend some dry cleaners in South East London but is it worth the hassle and cost of travelling for a couple of quid savings.
I suppose with the rent your paying living in that area and the cuts in City worker bonuses you ain't got much cash left for anything else!

I'd vote for Wonderweb too: I can sew but WW is quicker! Never tried it on jeans or stretchy material but it works on cotton and cotton-like finishes just fine. It can be renewed if it wears out before the trousers do - that only happens if you 'put your foot' into the hem by mistake!
I use two strips per leg, just because it's easier to position than using one long strip. Make their combined length slightly longer than the total length you need so there's a little bit of overlap where they join.
Test your fabric first: you MUST use a wet cloth but you don't want to end up with shiny iron marks!
If you need to take them up by more or less than a hem's worth then I guess the problems start, because if you've got a heavy hem 3" up your trousers they won't hang right and if you've got a raw edge it may fray, although the Wonderweb will help stop it. PM me if either of them is the case and I'll explain in more detail what I'd do.Signature removed for peace of mind0 -
Cheers guys, that wonder stuff sounds great! I had tried some from Italy before, but they seem to come apart very quickly. Though from your comments, its sound like the English counterpart is of a much better quality.
Will definitely give it a go on the weekend!

I've used Wonderweb on all sorts of trousers - jeans and stretchy fabrics as well. Last lot of wonderweb I bought was from Asda. It's really easy to use and if any of it does come undone you can just shove another bit of wonderweb in the hem next time you've got the ironing board out.
Being only 5 ft 2 1/2 " I've had to use a lot of Wonderweb in my time!0 -
I usually blind hem when shortening trousers but if you have trouble doing this wunderweb is great. I often use it for very sheer fabrics where even the most invisable stitches will show.Life's a beach! Take your shoes off and feel the sand between your toes.0

I have used it on bootleg trousers too - just space pieces of it out evenly - don't try and join them up, otherwise it doesn't work too well. The IVF worked;DS born 2006.0
