Mortgage Redemption and freezing, Help please

I am currently in a joint mortgage and have a year left to run on my current deal. The redemption penalty now is £5000. Is it possible as i am getting divorced to sell the house and freeze the mortgage whilst I find a house of my own, as I am looking to move to wales. And what will happen about the joint part of this as i want to go it alone?
