  • It's a bit of a con but a 21" CRT monitor will only have a viewable size of 20" whereas TFT's seem to state the genuine screen size. So, a 20" TFT would have the same viewing area as the monitor you're replacing.

Might save you a few quid.
  • My girlfriend's 21" Iiyama Vision Master CRT is actually 19.5", PC World, Currys and Dixons are doing a 19" Iiyama LCD for £199 and Staples are doing a 19" Benq LCD for £179, both with DVI and quick response times.

I think Currys is the best for the Iiyama since it's free delivery and there are some codes around.

i.m.o. a smaller tft is clearer than a normal crt.....i had a 21" crt monitor for work and it got replaced with a 19" tft and its fine.....i use AutoCAD everyday and have no problem with screen clarity......so 19" may save you more money.

kirst, what make tft are you using , as the quality varies hugely ( even when they have the same spec)
    thx J
  • For professional use I'd recommend Eizo. Expensive though.

Alternatively, Toms Hardware recently recommended the Dell ultrasharp 2405FPW, which is 24" widescreen. I'd imagine the 20" ultrasharp 2005FPW would be of similar quality.

what res do you run your 21's at?
if its 1280x1024 then two 17" will go well
MOST 19" are the same res also, 1280x1024, just the pixels are a bit bigger

dell screens are VERY nice IMHO, gets expensive tho

seriously, i'd consider two dell 17" at £150 each, or even three of 'em ;-)
    money saving my @rse.
I've spent 10x as much as I would if I had never discovered this website :-)

run at 1200 x 1600, , the size is for viewing whole chunks of building on, in autocad, even 19" is far too small for plan work - thats the prob!!
