40th birthday scrapbook/ this is your life red book?

My OH is 40 in 6weeks. I would like to compile a book celebrating his 40 years, but have never attempted such a thing so need some help.
I have started by hunting down pics of him over the years. I have asked as many friends and family as poss to provide me with some pics too. I have also asked them to write a story/paragraph about my OH that I can put in the book, and to get the children to do so or draw a pic.

When I get all these pics/words, how do I go about presenting it all? I thought about a 'This is Your Life' Big Red Book, but have been unable to source a suitable 'Book' so far. Perhaps a big red photo album?
Having just browsed this site, I see a number of people have compiled scrapbooks. That looks a good idea too. Where is the best place to get a scrapbook from?

Any ideas, hints or advice on what to do next gratefully received.

Thanks

Hubble

Snap im making a scrapbook of someones 40th too, but its my best friends. I have started to make the pages and then im going to put them altogether with book rings you can get them here http://www.charmedcardsandcrafts.co.uk/cgi-bin/sh000001.pl?REFPAGE=http%3a%2f%2fwww%2echarmedcardsandcrafts%2eco%2euk%2facatalog%2fBasic_Grey_Chipboard_Albums%2ehtml&WD=rings%20book&SHOP=%20&PN=Album_Accessories%2ehtml%23a11957#a11957 and they are quite cheap. You can also buy scrap books if you google it there are loads of companys that do them. Be warned it is very addictive and costs quite a lot. I have signed up to a webiste called UK scrappers http://www.ukscrappers.co.uk/boards/index.php and the cards and scrapbooks that they have on there are soooo nice. I have copied a few of there layouts as they are so nice. Also http://cp.c-ij.com/english/scrapbook/pattern/01.html this website has some amaizing backing/pattern papers to download all free. I have just started doing scrapbooking and I am really enjoying it. I have found that you dont need loads of pictures just a select few through his life. Things im going to put into my friends scrapbook are, people born in the same year, films out, songs etc. Because its the same year if you pm me im sure ive still got them somewhere and I can send them to you to save you looking them up. Im also going to put together a selection of songs from when we were younger songs that are memorable to us. Also because my friend no longer lives where she grew up ive taken pictures of the streets where we grew up and the places that we went to also some very picturesque ones of the beach. If you want any more information please pm me and I will be pleased to help you. Also if you want any techinical help then the people on UK scrappers are really nice and helpful. Sorry to have rambled on so much but I am really enjoying making this and it wont be my last one.

Thanks for all that info minimacka. Some good ideas and pointers on where to look for stuff. I can see myself getting sucked in and getting very involved in making this scrapbook! I will pm you, as I would be grateful if you have any stuff from '1968' as it'll save me trawling the net. I have already spent 2 hrs on it this morning, and am going boss eyed!
We have a good craft shop near me that I will go and look at before probably buying the stuff online, as i do like to get a feel of what I am buying first.

Hope yours is a success too.

    Thanks

I am also putting pages in like what her name means, things she likes, and im going to glue little envelopes into the scrapbook with notes from different people inside. Im also putting pictures of the primary and secondary school she went to and also names of people there at the time. (you could use friends reunited for names).

Im the same as you i didnt want to order anything from the internet but the local craft shops in my area dont stock these book rings so unfortunately im having to source them on the internet. I must of spent a fortune though on things for the scrapbook, and Im so lucky in the fact that ive printed off lots of backing/pattern sheets in colour from work so that hasnt cost me a penny. I have bought a lot of scrapbook bits from poundland they have peelable stickers and alphabets and are very nice for £1.

Getting Personal have a proper "Red Book", but it's very expensive for what it is, £34.95! But it might be worth checking out, just to get an idea of what yours might look like.

There are some cheapish ideas for 40th birthday gifts, too. And 10% off first order through Quidco (though it always comes up with 15% off my orders!).

"Cheap", "Fast", "Right" -- pick two.
