Debt Problems - Advise Reqd.

Hi All,

I was out of job last year in Apr.2007, I had some savings with which I managed to pay my credit card bills and (1) loan repayment. I was planning on to do business with some friends who later turned out to be not interested and I was left in middle of no where.

I had to find a job again, which I did by June 2007 and just when I was about to start building myself a little bit, something disastrous happened in my family and I had to travel back to my country (India). I went back in July 2007 and Just recently got back.

Now, the situation is as follows :

6 Credit cards (Max. Limit £ 3,500) (with payment Protection)

1 Loan (£ 10,000 , got it in June 2006 and was repaying smoothly untill July 1st 2007) (With Payment Protection)

5 Mobile phone contracts (Basically I took 4 out due to that business setup - now I have all of them on me)

Natwest & lloyds TSB over draft of 1400 combined.

My quesiton is, I recently changed my address to where I am living and I was just unable to pay due to the fact that I had to go in an emergency I notified the Loan company and the credit card guys that I am out of job and in tough time and will continue repayments as and when i get a job, I notified them via phone ( I made the calls) and when they rang me as well.

My Questions :

a) Would my credit file be a big hurdle in a job search in the IT Sector?
b) Would I be able to find a solution to my current debt situation?

What is the best method in your experienced advise ? I am looking for jobs and have interviews lined up with different IT companies, they are well paid jobs (If I get them) i am sure I would be able to start repaying them monthly as I always did for the last 5 years.

Very worried and depressed !
Please help
Regards
Imaginetive

    Hi imaginetive,

I'm afraid I can't answer your first question, but bumping this up so hopefully someone can. I would recommend posting a SOA, as it's the first thing the experienced debt-busters on here will ask for. There is always a solution, it's just a case of finding the right one for you.

    Best wishes, D x

I agree with dinah, if you post up an SOA which lists your income and outgoings then I am sure people will be able to advise
Money doesn't make you happy so I'm skint but cheerful
  • Hi Dinnah & Poppyg,

Thanks for your replies, as I got back about a week ago, I am looking for jobs now, have some interviews lined up during this week.

I can sum up my outgoings :

    £ 242 - Loan repayment per month
and all the credit cards repayment sums up to about £ 300 a month

I have yet to go and collect my post from my previous residence where I was before going back, I was in such a hurry that I was unable to inform or plan anything, Now i am trying to get hold of my post so that i can calculate.

Also, I have just changed my banks address to my current residence....
I will post an SOA as soon as I get my post or recent bills..

    Thank you so much
    Mutahir
