I make a lot of things as it saves money but you can get 4 packs for about 29p from Netto and they are lovely, much nicer than the Tesco ones.

There's an older thread here - chocolate mousse.

I use Delia's recipe, which is easy and delicious ;)

Not really a mousse, but a little pot of chocolate cream ;)

    Crème au chocolat

I found this on a French recipe site - it makes loads. I pour it into little ramekins and it does us at least 2 days.

Melt 1 tbps of butter (50g) in a thick-based saucepan. Stir in 1 tbsp of flour(40g) and make a roux.

Gradually stir in 1 litre of milk. Add 100g of sugar and 200g of plain chocolate broken into pieces. Stir continually and the mixture will thicken to the consistency of yogurt. When all chocolatey and smooth pour into dishes or little glasses and chill. It will thicken as it cools.

Oh I like that recipe, thriftlady:D I love choclatey things, but they always seem to include raw eggs, and I have a phobia about egg that isn't thoroughly cooked:o Just call me a wimp;)

Well I seized upon it when I saw it had no eggs too because my dd can't eat eggs unless very well baked in a cake.

    CHOCOLATE DESSERT

    Makes 4 servings

    INGREDIENTS

    200g of dark chocolate*
    1 egg
300ml (1 medium carton) of single cream
    1 drop of vanilla essence**
    A pinch of salt

    METHOD

Break the chocolate into pieces and put into a bowl. Crack the egg into a cup and pick out any bits of shell.

Put the cream into a saucepan on a low heat. Gently warm the cream to boiling point. Pour over the chocolate and leave for 5 minutes until the chocolate has melted.

Add the egg, vanilla essence and salt to the chocolate and cream. Mix until it is smooth.
Pour into cups, glasses or ramekins. Cool in the fridge for 3 to 4 hours.

    ADDITIONS & ALTERNATIVES

You can use eating chocolate, but check the ingredients to see if it has had vanilla added already. If it has, you don’t need to add any more. This could be useful, if you don’t want to buy a bottle of vanilla essence to just use one drop.

Use white chocolate instead of dark. Use both dark and white chocolate in alternate layers in a glass.

Keep a square of the chocolate and grate it onto the top. Put a teaspoon of Cointreau, rum or whisky on top. Get a big carton of cream and serve with the remainder of the cream, lightly whipped.

    * Use at least 70% cocoa cooking chocolate.

** Vanilla essence is not the same as vanilla extract or vanilla flavouring. It should be in the home baking aisle.
The acquisition of wealth is no longer the driving force in my life. :)

    150g marshmallows
    50g unsalted butter
250g dark chocolate, minimum 70% cocoa solids
60ml hot water from a recently boiled kettle

    284ml tub double cream
    1 teaspoon vanilla extract

Get out a good heavy saucepan and snip each marshmallow in half and drop the pieces in the pan.

Add the butter. Chop the chocolate into smallish pieces.

Add water from the kettle, and put the pan on the heat, stirring occasionally until everything is smooth and melted.

Remove from the heat. Whip the cream with vanilla extract until thick, then fold into the chocolate mixture until totally absorbed and smooth again.

Pour into 6 small ramekins or glasses, and cover with cling-film.

Put into the fridge to set, this will take at least 3 hours.
    TOP MONEYSAVING TIP

Make your own Pot Noodles using a flower pot, sawdust and some old shoe laces. Pour in boiling water, stir then allow to stand for two minutes before taking one mouthful, and throwing away. Just like the real thing!
