Need to get organised.

Posted over the weekend that I had finally admited to OH the state of our finances and the amount of Debt we had. So we are in the process of setting a DMP with CCCS. The main issue i have at the moment as i am not a very organised person. I have a mountain of paperwork that i will need to sort out so I am going to use this thread as my to do list. I make loads of these on home on paper but they always get lost. I am also very good at making nice little piles of paperwork just never sure what to do with these piles. So here goes.
Need to sort out all my bank statements so i can work on our exact budget for CCCS
Need to make a list of all companies that will need to be informed of our new bank account.
there is loads more to do but breaking myself in gently.

You have a good OH there and it appears that you are now together in beginning to sort things through-thats worth a million in the bank(ish)0

My only advice would be to get get yourself a load of folders and clear wallets one for each item ie one for the bank, one for bills etc, and then a large A4 diary, put bills that need paying etc, in the appropriate date of the diary, and write down everything that needs to be done on that day on the top half of the page and on the bottom of the page anything you did as a consiquence of phonecalls etc, then at least if you have to remember when the bank phoned you to chase for payment etc, you know the dates and such.
If you start doing this now it will become standard, and helps to clear your head, as everything is in the diary not running through your head and getting jumbled up.
Good luck with it all

Thanks for the replys and the wishes of good luck, think i will need it. I looked in one box and there was bank statements from 1995!!
Overthetop you are right OH is good although he did make one very sarcastic comment when he found out but he knows we are both at fault for our mess.
unhappybunny79 i was thinking of this, trouble is getting motivated to sort it but i am determined i will.February 2013 NSD - 40 -
Once you do it though, at least it will be easier to maintain. I am one of those sad people who loves organizing all my financial papers and am itching at the thought of sorting yours out!!
Best of luck with it all, it is a really good idea to do though, as otherwise bills can get unpaid which ends up with charges slapped on top and the start of a vicous circle.:j Live on £4500, £2531/£4500:T 101 in 1001 (52/101):j:beer::j

You and my OH would be a nightmare together - he's exactly the same! In our loft, we have bank statements & payslips going back to 1990  because he didn't want to get rid of them. Just in case. :rotfl:
I feel your pain about the shredding and sorting though, I have about 5 carrier bags full upstairs, and at least 3 dining chairs full down here. I look at it and can't actually believe how much there is. Lots of luck, hope you make better progress than me - I have 2 LOs at home during the day, then in the eves, I'm too scared of waking them to start shredding! :rolleyes:If you have good thoughts, they'll shine out of your face like sunbeams & you'll always look lovely.0 -
Suzeiq I have paperwork everywhere ontop of the microwave is my favourite place.
Well today I have lifted out the white box I should be using for filing and I have put all my Bank statements and correspondence from the bank for alll years but 2008 in a nice pile to put in a box that will go in the atic. Have stareted a spreadsheet for any bank things i need to do. I had to cancel my Home Insurance DD as it was being renewed on the 16th May but they increased my monthly payment by £5 (even though we have not claimed) I went through quidco got a cheaper quote and £65 cash Back:j but had forgotten to cancel old DD only remembered today while going through my statements so online banking gave me a receipt number for the cancellation so put this on a spreadsheet to keep note just incase! Oh i am getting into this organisation malarky already:o
Oh can any one tell me why my posts have certain words in red?February 2013 NSD - 40 -
Well sorted out or budget for our DMP. The CCCS website was very helpful with this but wanted to check it to make sure it is realistic, we will need to be careful but it all seems workable. Got a notepad i found in one of my piles and am going to use this as a spend diary. Also set up another spreadsheet to keep track of ingoings and outgoings. Not sure when DMP will start still awaiting new bank account cards etc.February 2013 NSD - 40
