Your OH is far too old for you. Ditch him and come live with me. Your recipes sound pucker! :T :p

If you've got anymore like that I'd love to hear them. They all sound lovely. :D It's making me hungry now! :rotfl:

Ha ha, don't let him catch you saying that lol :D

Yeah I have loads of things we eat, let's see.......

    Easy and healthy chicken carbonara
Chop a chicken breast into small pieces and cook in some oil in a frying pan for about 8 mins. Add a rasher of bacon cut into strips, a finely chopped clove of garlic and a handful of baby button mushrooms, or normal ones chopped up. Cook for another 5 mins or so. Add half a can of condensed cream of mushroom soup and 100ml of milk and simmer for a further 15 mins.

Pork Panini (I know your not keen on pork so you could substitute it for chicken)
Mix some pesto and garlic in a bowl and then smother on the meat, leave to marinated for at least 20 mins. Meanwhile chop a red pepper and roast in oven for 20 mins with oregano and olive oil. Then fry the meat until cooked. Warm some ciabatta breads and serve the meat and peppers along with some rocket inside.

    Cheat's pizza
Get a baguette and chopp it in half lenghtways and widthways.....depending on how hungry you are depends on how many you have.

Spread the bread with tinned chopped tomatos and then add whatever you fancy out of chopped mushrooms, cooked chicken, part cooked bacon, pepper, etc, whaterever you fancy on the pizza. Spinkle over some mozzarella and then grill under a hot grill until the cheese is melted. Very quick and tasty.

If you fancy a take away and can't afford cos of those damn bills try this:
    Homemade fish and chips
Peel and chop some potatos into chips and parboil for about 5 mins. Then drain them and put them in a baking tray with some olive oil, chopped/crushed garlic and some thyme, preferably fresh but dried will do. Cook in oven on a high heat for 30-40 mins.
Meanwhile get some white fish (i use coley cos its cheaper and just as nice) and dip in some flour, shake the excess flour off and dip in a beaten egg then dip in some breadcrumbs until coated. Towards the end of the chips cooking heat some oil in a pan and cook the fish for a few minutes on either side. Serve with peas or curry sauce or whatever takes your fancy.

Of course last year I lived in student accomaodation and so didnt always fancy cooking meals from scratch just for myself and i had one freezer shelf so i couldn't block cook to make it worth while. So I know that you can have satisfying meals with things out of tins etc Here is a few ideas that i used to eat:

Scrambled egg on toast (chops chives or spring onions into the egge before cooking for extra taste)
Macaroni cheese and toast (tho not quite as nice as my homemade version)
Pasta with some steamed chicken and passata mixed into it
Supernoodles with bacon chopped into it
Cheese, chilli and spring onion on toast
    Sausage, beans and jacket spud
Thin frying steaks in some crustry bread and a delicious relish

Hope that helps a bit more

    Hi there,

well done on moving out! :D

I'd suggest that you get a basic cookbook. Hamlyn does pretty good ones, and 'Good housekeeping' and 'BBC Good food' also do good books. Just have a look in any decent bookshop and find something that a) you understand b) has recipes you like the look of c) is fairly simple.

    What about something like this?
    http://www.amazon.co.uk/Cooking-Blokes-Omnibus-Duncan-Anderson/dp/0751532754/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1210620963&sr=8-2

BBC website food section has loads of recipes too.

Also, if you're home, cooking programmes like ready steady cook are good for learning the basics by watching someone. Better still cook a meal with your mum / a mate.

In terms of keeping your place clean - see the weekly flylady thread on what to do when. She gives you a routine each week which is a good starting point.

Really basic stuff :p - wash your towel / flannel / bathmat once a week (more if it gets smelly!) and air well in between uses
Clean your bathroom and kitchen once a week - these are the most important bits as you'll be ill if they're not cleaned regularly
Change your bed every 1-2 weeks.

    Good luck.

Hope that wasn't too patronising - it wasn't meant to be. :o

Ali, don't be daft. It's not patronising at all. I can't even get myself out of bed in the morning! :p:o

Bathmat? Do I need one of them? :rotfl:

My god, this all sounds like hardwork. I'm thinking I might be better off staying at home!

    hi SS,

Nice to see you on this board - I enjoyed your posts on DFW!

If you're anywhere near Halifax, West Yorks, OH and I have loads of old plates, bowls, cutlery collecting dust (well, they're in a cupboard, so not too dusty ;) ) if you want them.

Some are a bit chipped, but fine really. We kept them after doing up our kitchen and buying new ones lst year 'just in case' :p but have never used them.....
