Food stocks as a hedge against inflation

Perhaps we should all be buying food stocks as a hedge against inflation if the prices of basics continue to rise as they have been doing recently. It's beginning to feel that a good store cupboard, garage or shed full of non perishable food products would protect us more against inflation that putting money in a high interest savings account. And maybe we should all participate in a Shopping Strike on Mondays. If nobody went into a food store or supermarket on one specified day a week, I wonder if it would make any impact in bringing prices down. I can't believe that there isn't some profiteering going on somewhere, either with producers or retailers climbing onto the credit crunch bandwaggon.
