Help?!

I'm 17 and need to open a PayPal account. I know it states that you should be 18 to open one but I'm wondering is this just to cover their backs if a child gets onto it and signs up.

I don't consider myself a child as I have no mother or father and I need this to receive payments.

Does anybody know what the legalities involved would be?

Thanks in advance,

Mac

You cannot be contractually/ financially liable, therefore you cannot open a PayPal account.

Is there no one that could open one for you? What do you need it for?
    Gone ... or have I?
  • I need it to receive cash as I'm doing freelance writing online. Most websites/publishers only pay via PayPal.

Can I ask what you mean by "contractually/financially liable"?

If it's part of the rules that you have to be 18 to have a Paypal account, then that's part of the rules.

If you are under 18 you cannot be legally bound by finance agreements.

How long until you are 18? Do you have a social worker or case worker that could help you out on this?

(If you are under 18 then you may not be able to enter into a contract with the publisher/website and they may take your work and not pay - check their terms & conditions!)
    Always another chapter

  • I've got 10 months until I'm 18 =/

This is a headache lol. Thank you both though.

I think that if you write any article or get anything published then you own the copyright to that until you have been paid.
All publishers will have bank accounts and are able to issue cheques.
If they are telling you otherwise I think they are lying.
