My TV licence is £10.41 a month, which is £31.23 a quarter, so both figures sound right.

But you should be able to pay monthly.

  • Not sure about the TV licence, we just asked to pay them monthly and that's the figure they take off.

Car wise, I drive a 1998 1.8 20v VW Passat, compared to you it does seem a lot for petrol, it is a very heavy car which may explain it and I don't/can't drive fast in it! We're just over a year into the car loan agreement, so I'd probably lose a lot of money if I changed it now

Pity. Next timne, either get a lighter car or a diesel. I used to have a Peugeot 405 1.9 turbo diesel and it was quite cheap to run despite weighing as much as an elephant! Couldn;t accelerate much in it but it was lovely at cruising speed. Pity I couldn;t park the damn thing cos it was so big lol

  • Aye, well hindsight is a wonderful thing! To be honest I think we can cut back a fair bit in other areas so that the petrol wont be much of an issue.

    Thanks for all your advice.
  • We do not have a sky repair plan. Our equipment finally broke this year after 4 years. We called up and were given the standard blurb about the call out charge (think it was £70 ish).

We never bothered getting it fixed and was quite prepared to give up sky - when my oh called to cancel, they asked the reason, he said the equipment is playing up, and they came and replaced the dish and box. FOR FREE.

Our other plan was to cancel the sky, then get it in again in my name with the free install etc.

You really dont need the insurance.

Freeview is a great servive BTW. Just enough channels to feel like a reasonable choice, plus not too much rubbish. That Sky repair plan is probably not worth it either. AA is £9 per month approx. I'm sure you can join AA/RAC/Green flag for a one off of around £60.
    Happy chappy
