Advice please: Baines & Ernst

Hi Everyone,

I was wondering if you could help me regarding my debt management plan I have with Baines & Ernst. We have been with them since Feb 2005 and looking at finishing the plan in 2 years. Everything has been fine until Jan this year where it has all been going wrong! I asked themto send me through new balances for each creditor (10 in total) and I was given 2005 & 2006 figures:mad: so obviously demanded new ones and after regular chasing we are still waiting. Also we are having alot of problems with 3G; after nearly paying the debt off through b&e they have decided we now owe them another £105, which b&e just rolled over and agreed to pay. They have handed this debt over the Bachanon Wells (?) who have been ringing us every day for the last 3 weeks saying b&e havent bothered contacting them etc etc. So I have been going back and forth between them and costing me a fortune on my phone bill. Last month they even paid my ccj just under 2 weeks late there I was getting threatening court action against me. They even had to the cheek to blame me cause my standing order takes 2 days to clear (took them a further days to pay).

I have recently got married and therefore have more time on my hands to 'look' into changing DMP with another company however I havent got a clue who some of the debts are now with etc etc so how would I come around this? If I went to payplan would they take over the plan from b&e or do I have to cancel b&e and start fresh with PP? would my creditors be happy with me doing this? I will be saving £42 a month by swapping over and reducing my DMP by 5 months.

Sorry for the rambling I jus hope someone can help.

Thanks in advance

I would definitely look at moving to a free DMP. I'm sure your creditors would agree as they will then get the money Baines & Earnst are currently getting.

Why not give one of the debt charities a phone in the morning and find out how to go about it. We're with Payplan and I can highly recommend them :D .

    Hi MrsG

First of all you may want to consider paying your CCJ directly your self, this takes the risk out of missing payments and you know it is a priority payment you have to make.

Regarding who your debts are currently with you need to ask B&E for your paperwork from the creditors for this information. You could also get your credit report from a couple of agencies such as Experian or Equifax.

If you did move DMP to a free provider you would be paying an extra £504 per year towards your debts. Your creditors would be happier as they would be getting a bigger payment each month, and you would be paying your debts off quicker. You may want to stay with B&E until you have found a free provider and cancel once you know your new start date, or just take the payments on yourself until a new plan is set up and pay SO or over the counter to your creditors.

If you find it difficult to get the time to call for advice, try our online advice facility called Debt Remedy where you can complete a financial statement and be provided with advice on the best way to deal with your situation. If a DMP is best option it will advise how you to proceed, alternatively other options may be best advice.
