Natwest mortgage advice

awe are considering a natwest mortgage just wondering if anybody had or has one of these and what they are like as a company. Also an advisor has told me never to go with a company who offers free legal advice as they won't look after you. Is this the case? Anybody had any probs? Thanks

Free legals are not bad, but they are working for the lender, not you.

Have you worked out that the natwest is the best for you?

If you tell us your current mortgage, your property value and your income, type of mortgage you are looking for, maybe we can help you.

I have had a Natwest Fixed Rate Mortgage since December 2006 - term ends this November, and I have to say, I am not looking forward to losing my current deal of 5.49%. Apparently all Natwest mortgage products are now at a variable rate of 7%. Unless the market changes considerably, don't know how I will cope. But enough about me! I have found them to be really efficient, expedient, helpful and amenable. My mortgage was processed really quickly, and the blurb is nice and clear too, not too much waffle and jargon. Only downside is that they are based in Scotland and I sometimes have a trouble with the accent - have to ask them to repeat sometimes! I would go for it.

Thanks very much for all you feedback its good to know they have been helpful with you all.
UK007 Bulldog - we have been looking for a while and thought we had a good deal a week las wednesday with chelsea but when the advisor checked the rate on friday it had been pulled. we had decision in principal and all ok. since then she has been waiting for chelsea to release new fixed rates but they were too high. this friday she came back with a fixed rate from accord??? it was at 6.09% for 5 years and it had £2200 fee plus £400 solicitors and £300 valuation fee!!!!!
We are advantage gold holders with natwest and whilst out shopping i popped into the branch, they phoned me back and are offering 6.09% 5 years fixed rate with £999 fee no legal or valuation fees.
Our mortgage is due to end this month so after all the messing around by our advisor i doubt we will be remortgaged in time so looking at paying SVR with our current lender for a month i think.
Looking for £144K mortgage over 21 years.
    thanks

I used to work for them many moons ago. I do not recommend them. (Unless you work for them and get a staff deal).

My fathers mortgage is with them, been there three years now and he has nothing but bother with them. He overpays and has two sub accounts. They always pay it off the wrong one. His balance on is statement this year was £12k more than it was last year...work that out.....

Apparently his mortgage records were confused with those of someone with an RBS mortgage with the same account number.....despiste the fact that they are all meant to be on the same system, so how it duplicated an account number I do not know.

The customer service is genereally poor and unless its changed since I was there, the processing isnt great either, as the computer system they bought "off the shelf" because they didnt prepare in time for regulation, never did everything that it was meant to do.
Remember an adviser in a bank can only advise on thier own products, not the whole of the market.

If you are happy to do this then fine, but I would seek out other options before making a decision.
  • Jobcob,

Did you say that Natwest offered you 6.05% 5 yr fix with £999 fee?

Dependant on your short, medium long term plans that really isn't that bad. There probably is lower rates around, but some, not all, may carry sols and val fees.

Eg Abbey 5 yr fix 5.93% up tto 75% LTV free legal and val £1499 arrangement fee.

The Chelsea deals did go Friday and they wree replaced with 6.99% fixed rate I think. 25 prodcuts down to 5 poducts at the drop of a hat.
