Tesco and money of coupons?

Went into Tesco today and the lady in front of me had a hand full of money off coupons the sort that you cut out from magazines, and a basket full of food drink etc. when her bill was totted up she only had to pay £6,40 i know for a fact that she couldnt have had all the items if any that she had vouchers for (her bill must have been at least £25ish).
My question is, does tesco except vouchers even if you dont have the product. I did ask the checkout boy his answer was " I dunno cant be bovered to ask"
Seems a good way of saving a few £££ to me

The policy is Tesco will except any Manufacture money off coupon, as long as they are not store specific (ie Somerfield), they must be in date and the product must be stocked in that store.
They will accept one identical coupon, or two if you buy the product and so on.
But the policy is translated differently by each C/O_____________________________________________

I used to for asda, and like the OP said they take any coupon as long as it's not store specific, and will take up to three of the same vouchers without buying the product.0
