Just thought I'd say hello.
I got myself in about 7K of debt via a credit card, personal loan and bank overdraft. In a well payed job, but I just spent more than I earnt, and got a bit carried away with spending on car parts.
One day, almost 3 years ago now, I lay in bed thinking about it and suddenly faced reality: I was in debt and I didn't like it. So I started not spending money. My major technique was very simple: I just kept an Excel spreadsheet showing all my balances, updated every day, so then I could trace a graph of how much money I didn't have. It worked really well. Every month my aim was to be better off than the previous. After two years of this I had cleared all 7K. A year later I am now in credit by about £4K and I'm starting to put the money into savings.
The thing is, I still had fun during that time. I just eradicated unecessary spending and money leaching away. I actually really enjoyed the sense of control that I had over everthing.
I do quite a bit of Ebay buying and selling too. Selling makes pocket money and then I spend bits of that on CDs DVDs etc. Never buy those new.
