I woke up this morning and went to drive my car but i couldnt get it in first or second gear. i have no savings and the money i do have is budgeted till the end of the month. I need to get it fixed asap as i am working all next week tomorrow included. i tried to call some garages today but they were either full or not open.
Please help i feel like i have took 5 huge steps backwards just when everything was coming together

First of all-don't panic !
Second think how you could get to work without a car....is there a bus? do any of your collegues live near you? any neighbours go in the same general direction.
Then think who you know who may know a mechanic -most will do private jobs and get some numbers and ring.
It's a horrible feeling when a car you depend on goes wrong-and the thing I really don't miss now I've given up my car (that, road rage and parking tickets)
Once you start working out what you can do it won't seem so bad-it's that helpless panicky feeling that makes it more difficult. It's a blip on your journey so stay focusedI Would Rather Climb A Mountain Than Crawl Into A Hole

Ouch! Bad news!
Does the engine actually start?
With the engine off, can you get it into 3rd or 4th gear?
When was the last time you drove it?For what I've done...I start again...And whatever pain may come ...Today this ends... I'm forgiving what I've done -AF since June 20070 -
oooh I hate problem car
I spent thousands on my last car, and that was with a OH who can pretty much rebuild one from scratch.
He's out fitting a hands-free kit to mine, but when he comes in I'll ask him what it might be.DEBT FREE! Sep '08/£9,800 in Oct '06 :beer:0 -
HI
I had the same problem a few weeks ago, I thought the gear box had broken and it would be expensive to replace.
I called the RAC and the orange van turned up and it was fixed within 3 minutes... all he done was adjust the screw for the clutch under the bonnet to raise my clutch pedal as it was on the floor and should be in line with the accelorator pedal. (because the clutch was on the floor there was no room to change gear)... My car drives like a brand new car again.

Pls call out the RAC / AA whichever.
I had car probs too recently and when they came he was able to tell me what the prob was - and estimated the cost etc. Also recomm somewhere affordable I should go to as well.
If it is a minor prob - they can also prob 'do something to it' to enable you to drive the car for abit until it can be repaired. This happened to me once when we were on the motorway and broke down. They put something in the radiator which allowed the car to be used for a couple more days..
..call someone in the know.
Also - try a local garage near you - some are kind enough to send someone round for a 'quick look' if they hear a 'helpless young lady in need' on the other end of the phonejust make sure your brrother / male neighbour is hanging around when they do come - so they dont attempt to rip you off...

My fellas says it might be the gearbox or it might be the links or summat in there being out.
He explained it much better actually...
