Royal Mail "Sorry, you were out" queries

Hi, I've recently purchased an item through eBay and today, I received a Royal Mail card through the letterbox.
It says it's a Packet, and it's not delivered because it's too big for my letterbox.
However, there was no "Item Number" and more worryingly, the box "Has been returned to the Royal Mail Delivery Office" is NOT ticked. All the other boxes behind are not ticked either.
Can I assume that the Packet will automatically be returned to the Delivery Office and I can collect them on Monday... Or are they going to return it to sender straight away?
Thanks.

There is only an item number if the package was recorded or specil delivery, yours was just too big for the letter box.
Your postman will have taken the packet back to either his sorting office or the post office, if taken back to post office it will be sent back to your local sorting office for pick up by you. I cannot say when it will be available for pickup, shouldbbe there monday or tues.
It will only get returned to sender if it hasn't been picked up after 14 days.0 -
No, it will not be returned to sender straight away. Recorded delivery items are kept at the delivery office for one week before RTS and all other items are kept for 3 weeks. I suspect the postie has just forgot to tick the box to say it's gone back to the sorting office. As for item number, if it wasn't either a recorded or Special Delivery item then there is no number to put on the card! Hope this helps.firsttimestudent wrote: »Hi, I've recently purchased an item through eBay and today, I received a Royal Mail card through the letterbox.

Try entering your details here http://www.royalmail.com/portal/rm/eredelivery;jsessionid=CGVU5MPOOQIQQFB2IGVUUBQUHRA0UQ2K?catId=37000673&gear=authentication and see if you can arrange for the parcel to be re delivered.
Sometimes i think the postman just misses filling in part of the form.
Hope that helps. The first time we said hello, was the first time we said goodbye. As the angels took your tiny hand and flew you to the sky-you forever left us breathless. RIP my beautiful granddaughter

On the slip, your local Royal mail office will be shown. Go there and give them the slip and they'll give you the parcel. You need 1 form of ID.
Don't worry, my postman never puts anything on the slip. They expect people to ring the number or just go to the office themselves.

The package has been returned to your local delivery office & is awaiting collection. Some items have 14 days to be collected or you can re-arrange delivery.I usually like to drink my whisky neat :cool2:0
