RE-numbered BT line -DECT phones now won't work

This is complicated to explain.
I have a 4 year old Inventeer pair of DECT phones. I had 2 BT lines and used one for dial-up upstairs (A) and one downstairs for calls (B). I got Broadband recently and decided to dispense with one line. Advice from BT was to keep line A where my PC was , discontinue B and then have A renumbered with the B number.
I suspected it would be a nightmare but BBand was uninterrupted. However with my Inventeer phones - preprogrammed to put 18866 in front of anything you dial- I can make no calls out. Calls come in but the Inventeer phones don't ring- they go to 1571
The renumbered line is working as BB is OK.
I tried an old fashioned, old phone and that works for incoming and outgoing calls.
The fault is obviously with the Inventeer phones. They worked fine up to the renumbering. Can anyone help with why they won't work.?
Thank you.

Outgoing.
Have you checked your 18866 a/c to see if the outgoing number you are now using is registered?
Incoming.
If i recall correctly the base unit doesnt ring when receiving an
incoming call ,only the handsets. These can normaly be adjusted from silent
to loud. Have you tried adjusting them?0 -
Thank you. The number has always been registered with 18866 but I'll check in case the stop and restart affected 18866.
Have altered the loudness with no effect. Sadly I think I may need new phones.if i had known then what i know now0
