How long should it take for a Maestro Chip & Pin trans to debit from my account?

Hi, I've not used this before but I'm hoping someone might be able to help. I used my chip & Pin card to pay for something quite expensive 3 weeks ago in a large supermarket. The money still hasn't be debited from my account - is this normal? Is there a standard amount of time this should take? I used my card in the same supermarket this afternoon and the amount is pending already?
Thanks for your help in advance!

Sounds to me as though something has gone wrong somewhere with the transaction.
Large retailers will bank all credit and debit cards every day.
Smaller retailers will only bank them once a week.....
I would say nothing but be prepared for the amount to suddenly be taken from your account without warning.0 -
Thanks for your reply, I thought that this would be the case. he reason tat I asked it because I'm currently changing to a different bank and would like to close this account altogether. Do you know if there is any kind of "expiry" on these type of transactions. Does is basically come down the slip being banked? (I presume an audit will find this hasn't been done somehow?)
Thanks again0 -
Unfortunately the limitation period is six years, so you would be best advised to contact the retailer and query the transaction.Gone ... or have I?0

There should be two types of balance on your account - your account balance and your available balance.
The account balance will be how much cash is in there from the transactions which have completed. However the available balance will include any debit/credit card transations which have been registered by the retailer, but not necessarily been paid yet. It may be best to check your available balance to see if the retailer has registered the transaction. Your bank should be able to see this information as well as the retailer - even if the money hasn't left your account.0
