Professional photographs

I'm going to have a professional photo done next week with the children and husband. We don't want to spend a fortune and are hoping to haggle, we're using Cavendish studios in Chester. Does anyone have any tips on how to haggle a deal or know if it's possible to do this? I really don't want to be ripped off either. Our budget is about £300.

I presume that as you have already booked in for this, the sitting itself is free? And you are under no obligation to buy photos?? I'd check that first before you have the sitting - if they say their photos are £300 and you have to pay for a sitting on top of that then you have blown your budget already! It does depend on individual photography studios I think. Venutre is a well-known studio that charges about £100 for a small 7x5 photo in a frame. They also own the copyright, so its not like you can take it away and have it made into a big canvas print for yourself or anything! I'd find it all out first before you have your sitting. Its always worth haggling - just say "if I bought 2 of these then, would you come down on the price?", or, for example, "if I wanted this made into a canvas, would you be able to do it for £100 instead of £125". One of my friends had one of the studio photo sessions when they were on holiday at center parcs. She bought the copyright to the photos rather than buying the photos themselves and then she went to Happy Snaps and got some beautiful canvases for about one quarter of what center parcs were going to charge, so it might be worth asking if you can do that too.
Hope it all turns out ok. x
