Personnel manager problem?

    Friend just popped over in her lunch hour in tears.
    The assistant manager hasn't left her alone all morning and when she asked (after the advice on here) about being trained/mentored he said 'we don't do that here' so it seems what they do, do is send you to do a job,without showing/telling you how then wait for you to get it wrong & jump on you.:confused: seems very wrong to me.

    Even other staff have commented on how he picks on her constantly.:mad:

    If your friend is strong enough, the next time the assistant manager picks on her in front of other staff she should tell him loudly that she doesn't appreciate being bullied at work. She should also join a union asap and let it be known that that she is in one. Bullies are cowards and hate their victims fighting back.

    You say it's not a difficult job that she has; there are a lot of semi skilled//unskilled jobs around. Really on balance she might be best off just looking for another one, especially if everyone knows that her area is currently overstaffed. After all, even if a grievance was upheld against her manager, that doesn't mean that she won't be released.

    But she is entitled to support. It's part of the reason for written particulars including a job title or information which would be sufficient to explain her position in the organisation - and who should be supporting her (her line manager).

    Bit of a turn around. She was so upset yesterday and mentioned to someone that she was putting in a complaint.

    Yesterday afternoon the assistant manager called her in and told her he was sorry(in a round about way:rolleyes: ) and offered her a sort of sideways promotion:confused:
    She now has better hours, better job and hopefully, not so much stress.

    She said she'll give it a week and see what happens and how it goes, but she's much happier.

    Fingers crossed it stays sorted but i feel that leopard isn't going to change his spots. Still she now has time to look elsewhere.

    so he is buying her silence then?

    she should only get the promotion if she deserves it, she should only get different hours if it is just and fair, she may be happy about this but surely she must question if she is happy about this when it looks like she has not got it through merit but because she was going to complaint

    If it was me - I would not take it and certainly use it against him as it is obvious to me what he is upto and it's not right

    It seems as though your friend has called the bully's (assitant manager) bluff. If I were her I'd still be looking for another job and I'd continue with the official complaint. If she doesn't feel strong enought to do this she should at least make sure that she'll have a satisfactory reference from the company when she tries to move on.

    Hopefully this has been sorted but the original complaint was handled badly. Any complaint should be documented, the person who has been complained about should be advised but never ever told who did this. (they may of course work this out). Even if you are on probation you still have the same rights re training,complaints, harrassment etc and any decent company would respect this.
    Bullying is the same whether at school, at work, in the home or on websites like this one. The person who did this should be pitied also maybe your friend is too good at her job!!

    it seems it was all too good to be true and even though shes been moved away from the !!! manager, hes still picking at her.
    In front of several people today he told her that the person who was now doing her old job managed to do it so well and she should check out there work. Totally humiliated her.

    Shes put in a couple of applications for other jobs so hopefully will be out of there soon.

    She's coming over tomorrow night and we're going to put 'something' together using her knowlegdge and the suggestions on here.
